Was thinking the other day, I've seen a lot of cool restaurants and bars in doramas:

Antique - the amazing dessert shop from the dorama of the same name
Liverpool - the bar from Dear Friday's Lovers that always played Beatles music
Miyuki Soba - from Otousan where Nakatani Miki, Hirosue Ryoko, Iijima Naoko worked with their dad, Tamura Masakazu
Petit Etoile - from My Little Chef, where Abe Hiroshi, Ueto Aya, and Yada Akiko worked
Refrain - the cafe from Meguri Ai where Tokiwa Takako worked part-time
Unknown Bar - from Hero, where the tall, imposing, but quiet bartender could cook virtually anything
Unknown Ramen Stand - from Beautiful Life, where Kimura Takuya would go for ramen and a beer at night.


What are your favorite restaurants and bars from doramas, and what makes them special to you?

Antique - The Cake Store was so beautiful and exquisite looking. Plus, who wouldn't want Takizawa Hideaki as your waiter? sigh. I love him.

Blue - A bar from "Taiyou no Kisetsu". It looked cool with its contemporary atmosphere.

Shota no Sushi - The Tokyo Sushi Restaurant that Shota interned at for a while.

Water Boys - The restaurant where the five high school synchronized swimmers went where there were transvestites working. (It'd be scary, but it'd be interesting, too. )

Hmmm . . . what was the name of that broom closet-for-a-bar in Hotman? That one seemed to stir up a lot different emotions, fighting, sadness, worry. And had some nice-lookin' ladies there too!!!

ON the U.S. drama scene, one bar comes to mind immediately for some reason. Remember The Equalizer from the 1980s? Robert McCall would meet the folks who answered his "NEED HELP? GOT A PROBLEM?" ad at this bar that he ended up buying. Nice, N.Y. restaurant/bar called, in the show, at least, O'Phelan's? Looked like they had good steak; too bad I don't eat that no more.

Haven't seen Hotman yet, will likely watch it during my upcoming business trip.

The Equalizer was a good show, but didn't watch it much, I was too busy doing sports in the evenings back then. Great soundtrack for that show, by Stewart Copeland (formerly of The Police).

HOLY goodness, you get 'EM, eh, pcmodem? What an esoteric piece of knowledge you have (unless, of course, for The Police fans) of one of my all-time fav' series; yes, would do well in a The Equalizer (or TV spies) Edition Trivial Pursuit, the question, "who did the synth/drumbeat-based score to The Equalizer theme?" Good, good. He's also just a great drummer that Stewart Copeland.

What kind of sports were you doing at that time, by the way?

Still thinking here . . . also, I got workage stuff too, hahah.

I've only seen My little Chef. I haven't seen any other dramas that would have restaurants or bars. My answer is Petit Etoile

I'll propably always like Petit Etoile more than others as Aya Ueto worked there. That alone makes it unbeatable

Hey, here's my take on it if I somehow found myself in that restaurant (and, look, by the way, the "girls" in the following do not at all refer to any females here on the board or any I know . . . the following is a laugh, hahah, joke thing, OK?):

Well, hyvaa huomenta to you, Eke . . . I would give you an greeting a bit more aligned with your time zone, but, gosh darn it, to tell you the truth, I DON'T EXACTLY KNOW WHAT TIME THAT IS AT THIS JUNCTURE (either that or . . . I'm too lazy to find out, ahhhahah). Anyhow, it's The Man's Saturday morning, and I hope you, Eke, and everyone else, has a great rest-of-the-weekend, OK?

Just sat around last night at an eatery, dined on some heavy pupus (that's NOT "kaka"; pupus is Hawaiian for hors d'oeuvres or "appetizers"). No alch' drinks for me, though, as I was the designated driver; can you give it up for me for being such a conscientious (and conscious) guy? Thank you [bows to applause], thank you. We all had some very good conversation, though. Yeah, I think as you get older, conversation amongst friends starts to get a tad more intelligent. Ha.

I recently thought of two J-dorama-based restaurants and/or bars that I can't immediately with monikers. Maybe ya'll's can help. Those two places are:

-- The bar that Detective Yasuura goes into at the end of almost every episode in Hagure Keiji (THAT bar, actually looks like a nice, clean bar where you can hang out all night. Nice place).

-- You all remember Za Chefu or The Chef, yes? Starring Noriyuki Higashiyama, also from the boy band Shonentai? Yes? Now, as many off-site culinary feats his character, Ajisawa, performed in that dorama, he had a base of operations . . . what was the name of that place?

I guess we have the rest of the weekend to figure it out. But, I bet there's one of ya'll's out there who immediately knows the answer(s).

OK, then . . . I think I'm going back sleep for now, hahahah .

Wow Man! Did you just search that on the web? I think so as i don't think too many people can speak finnish outside Finland. Maybe Sweden as there lives quite many finnish peole... (added the "ä" characters to the quote as i know you meant them but just couldn't write them...)

And in here it's currently about 11:40 pm (GMT +2) so it's evening here. I was supposed to go to some huge party at some new skateboarding park (or something) with one of my friends tonight, but we decided to stay home for tonight.

And sorry but as i'm quite new to dorama i don't have a clue what those places that you mentioned are

If I remember correctly (and I might be wrong with my senile old mind!) the name of the bar is "Sakura".

The Chef I'm not sure...I always thought he just worked out of whereever he was hired. I mean the guy made a freakin' meal in the back of a van or truck (whatever!) for goodness sakes!

Hhaah. I actually heard it SAID once by someone while I was at The University of Hawai'i. Yah, I did a search to look up the spelling, hahah. Thanks for the clarification, though.

The place from Hero. That place was great the bartendar could make anything.
