Yes indeed Japan is very lit up.; but that is not what amazes me the most.
While looking to the west of Japan I notice the Korean penisula. Look at South Korea compared to North Korea!! I can see the 38th parallel through the diffrences in lights!

Oh yeah. After I graduate from school and am free of ALL commitments, I'll go for maybe half a year. Before that I'll probably take a crash course on Japanese Language first Big Grin. Maybe go with one of my japanese-speaking friends.

But that's centuries away... Sad

I still don't understand how non-Japanese speaking tourists can 'survive' in a country where bulk of the population speak Japanese and don't understand English. I hope to go there soon.......

lucky everyone who has been there.. me really want to go odaiba and see the big big ferris wheel.. Mr Green

If my memory serves me well, there is no big big ferris wheel in odaiba. The big big ferris wheel is in yokohama. The fuji tv station is in obaida though, and you can go up to their viewing platform and buy stuff from their shop there.

I've been to japan once every year since 2 years ago. The previous time I was in tokyo was when they had the heaviest snowfall in 11 years. When in japan, the most fun you can have comes from keeping your eyes open....babes (and hunks) galore Nut

My sister's friend went there once w/o knowing how to speak japanese, and as she's Buddhist, she can't eat beef, so she went in, attempted to say, NO BEEF to the waiter, gave up, and started going 'NO...' "MOOOOOO", with hands sticking out of her head for effect. hehe The waiter understood straightaway, and my sis's friend got laughed at Big Grin... but she learnt how to say 'NO BEEF' later. Mr Green

learning the language is plus when going to a new country. but as is the culture. since i live in california(dry weather that i love!) its a big differnce in asian countries to me. i had to learn to always close a door after i enter one. and people dont like giving money hand to hand. so you put it in a tray and slide it to them. and the bathrooms i needed to get used to, and learn to bring toilet paper everywhere.

i stayed with a host family when i was there and visited a school. my house had a ricefield so i slept to the sound of a billion frogs every night. and the sound of bells in at 7 every morning.

the historic places are pretty neat too. i went a temple with a deer park and they attack you if you have food.

by the way, watch out for the stairs. since japan is so small everything is built up and the stairs are very steep.

Big Grin cows still make the same sound. but the japanese say "MO" with the japanese pronounciation. and dogs go "WAN WAN". i think stars go "SHING SHING"

yah i agree w/ sabriel... learning about the ofuro (bath) was really funny.. people start wondering what the stools are for and the shower with their weird hot cold taps. arranging the footwear meticulously at the porch and the slippers outside your room...

think the place you went was in Nara.. near Kyoto... known for the deer park and the temples... ancient capital of Japan

Japanese have an interesting way of pronouncing sounds... stars go "kira kira" ... slippery is "tsuru tsuru" etc.. interesting sub topic in the language

As long as you don't describe the ringing of a bell on a bicycle as 'chin chin' you'd be fine hehe

My friend is going to Japan this year for his study abroad program and I plan on visiting him in Tokyo during spring break.
My plans:
-Save money for the trip. (currently working like mad)
-Compile a list of sites to see.
-Learn a lil Japanese.
-Soak up as much culture and knowledge as possible while visiting.
Like sammy said, anyone who has been already please inform us of your stay.

HEeheh.. I'm going to Japan next year! I actually managed to convince my mom to bring me there.

I'm going at the end of the year, I believe it's winter then? I'd wanted to go during Autumn, but I've got no choice... i have to wait till after my year end exams. I'm going there ... probably on tour then... I know my family would be lost somewhere in Japan if we were on free and easy.

After Japan, we will be touring Korea as well. Not that I'm very interested ... but it doesn't hurt to go to another country...

I'll certainly post about my experience after I've gone there. Probably post some pics up too.. Big Grin
