Although Sakura held my attention, it was Churasan with the incomparable performance by the gorgeous Kuninaka Ryoko that swept me head over heels into the Japanese drama world....
Nothing will ever compare to the humor, heartwarming, charming chemistry of the entire rooming house cast that made this the top rated asadora of all time. In love Jumpie Applaud

Churasan is top rated? I think there are a few others that scored higher ratings? Your talking about viewership ratings right?

Right.. viewerships.... Maybe in the very beginning of asadoras due to the curiosity factor.... but I don't know any that can beat Churasan for viewership for pure enjoyment. That's why there are so many sequels. The asadora public can't get enough of the rooming house gang. Of course the sequels don't count as they are not asadoras. But they emphasize how popular Churasan was/is.

I know that SOS was the first Dorama that I watched. I was hooked from the start.

I very quickly latched on to dorama in general though. Grabbing GTO, Good Luck, Hero, Beautiful Life, Long Vacation and others within a couple weeks and watching them over a two month span.

And here I am several years later still hooked. :-)

hmm, lesse here, the first one I ever saw was Oshin from way way back when I was 5 yrs old I think. I didn't see it all though, only a few scattered episodes in the middle, no beginning no end, same way with Tokyo Love Story.
I think the first one I ever finished from front to end was either GTO or Summer Snow. Wow I feel old now Shameful Cry

Hana Yori Dango - I actually got into it about a month before season 2 came out ... I just absolutely love that drama and everything about it.

Then I also watched 1 Litre of Tears and Gokusen...ah, the good ol' days.

My first ever Jdorama was Ns Aoi. It didnt had the same old plot as we are used to when watching hospital sitcoms, but some very nice side-stories (and the hospital has a surprising odd background). Also its worth mentioning that the actress playing nurse Aoi is in my opinion one of the more attractive japanese actresses out there..

my first drama was Hana Yori Dango, because i've seen the anime and read the manga, so i was interested in how it was all going to work out. i'm glad i did. excellent portrayal, both seasons.

after that i was hooked and had to feed my newfound jdorama addiction. w00t!

It amuses me how many people got into dorama thanks to HanaDan or Gokusen XD myself included! I was a victim of Jun-Bait back in the day wah! Shameful Cry ah well I can't lie I still think Jun is pretty handsome but he's not one of my favourites. (That's reserved for Tamaki, Yamapi and Koichi)

My 1st Jdrama was Oshin, I sort of liked it, but because I was really young back then, I only watched bits and pieces and some parts just bored me, so I wasn't really into it.

I watched many more Jdramas like Tokyo Love Story and something stewardess along the way but they all didn't leave me any good impressions. Not until I saw Hanayome wa 16-sai when I was in 5th grade that I became instantly hooked. That drama was great fun, the sweet, fluffy kind of drama that one would find in a shoujo manga nowadays.

Jdramas used to be moderately popular in the early 90s in Vietnam, but we basically don't get to see them on TV at all in recent years. How sad is that! Thanks to the Internet and D-addicts that I get to watch all the recent Jdramas, but if I was to depend on the TV stations I would not be able to watch anything *sighs*. I miss the good old days.
