I noticed that some topics are in hundred pages, even thousands! I think it's quite troublesome for members to check/load the topic.

Maybe a special forum/category could be made for those topics that have reached 100 pages. We may call it "Recycle Bin" or anything the admin likes. Of course, those topics have to be closed first then another thread about the closed topic can be created.

^_^ Just suggesting. It's what we do in our forums.

I feel you. They did that in this jdorama, Densha Otoko, only that they lock a thread when it reaches 1000 posts, not pages. Sweat

I'm not sure how having a topic with hundreds of pages makes it difficult to load since only 30 or so posts are shown per "page". What we may need is a better search engine.

I have a feeling that would make things really confusing around here.

i wholeheartedly agree...and it would create multiple threads for the same topics, in effect. i refrained from posting yesterday but i agree with you.

In some ways, it's like splitting a movie into 2 cds. Sure it saves space, but I hate it when it stops and I have to load another disc to continue.

I dont think we want MORE threads here... that's why we discourage creating multiple topics on the same subject.

(10) 100 page threads, or (1) 1000 page thread, it makes no real different in load times since you're only pulling 20 posts at one time. The problem would be when you're pointing to a specific post. Instead of saying 3rd post on page 402, you'd have to remember which locked thread it was in. Now you're referring them to 4th locked thread, 2nd page.

It's a different story if you're pulling all 2000 posts at once.

If Beem can moderate all the forums while using his dialup, anyone else shouldn't have a problem.

What forum are you referring to, personally, i'd like to take a look at how you do things there and if it makes a real difference. Do you keep them chronological order and then pin them in place, so that they are grouped together...etc...

I *think* I've seen this in the Philippine TV station forums. You'll see threads named: "YOUR_FAV_ARTIST Thread #X". I'm not used to that organization. Sweat

I don't believe so.

Incidentally, I wonder if this would work: Having sub forums with threads underneath. For instance, Under Artists there could be a subforum for SMAP, and then threads for each artist.

Perhaps. If I believe that poll results, then we should try to subdivide the Artist forum. Heck maybe the rest of the site should be divided. It's been done at D-addicts.

I actually went to the Warm and Fuzzyrave... still have the flyer.

Anyways, i was thinking.. i doubt the mods need the added work of merging into different threads and monitoring sub-sections.. but i'll wait for one of them to chime in.

glad you got a laugh off that one... ^_^

i agree....to alter the current structure in the ways discussed seems problematic at best....necessitating more "busy work" as you suggested.

not to say there's isn't room for improvement...but the facility of the current structure has served hundreds of members here usefully and without much debate or consternation.
