Nodame Cantabile

Synopsis

Megumi Noda, or "Nodame," is a piano student at Momogaoka College of Music. Although she is an extremely talented pianist who can play by ear, she can't read music. She also hates to take a bath or clean her room. For her daily meals, she usually grabs something out of her friend's lunchbox.

Nodame soon falls in love with Momogaoka's top student, Shinichi Chiaki. Born into a musical family, he plays the piano and violin brilliantly. Although his major is piano, he has secret ambitions to become a conductor.

Based on the big hit comic book by Tomoko Ninomiya, this is the romantic comedy of two completely different personalities. -- Fuji-TV

Is anyone watching this drama?? I loved it! It's time for a little romantic comedy which I think is so lacking in the Jdrama scene lately. I loved Juri in the role of Nodame, and I've said this many many times but yeah, she's the best actress for this role. I'm happy at the pace the drama is going right now, it's just right, not too slow not too fast. Can't wait for the 2nd ep. So, what does everyone think about this? I just wonder, did you enjoy this as much without having seen the manga first? I could be biased in my judgement since Nodame Cantabile is one of my fav mangas, but I thought the first ep was very well done.

I know for a fact that Nodame Cantabile the manga is extremely popular in Japan, just recently a Nodame cafe was opened, and next year there will be an anime for this as well. However, outside of Japan, there isn't much talks about this at all, which is a little sad because I love the manga and love to discuss about it.

You're absolute right, mikomi, nodame cantabile isn't popluar outside of Japan. I'm searching about 1 hour and found nearly nothing.

a lot of j-dramas coming out are off Manga's....a lot don't do well....like Nurse Aoi...didn't do well in ratings...

but this one..i haven't seen it, but from what i viewed so far.....I think Juri is a fine actress and fits the role quite well.....storyline seems intriguing as well....

I watched the first episode three days ago. Love it very much, it's so entertaining. I think Ueno Juri fits the character well. Watching this makes me like Tamaki Hiroshi even more

My fave scene is when Nodame practicing the piano under Chiaki's supervision.

Nodame (after finish playing the piano) : Something wrong? (Chiaki gives a funny look)
Chiaki : Yes, something is wrong/strange
Nodame : He?? Which one??? (busy looking at the partiture, hahaha...she can't even read it!!)
Chiaki: Kusai (somtehing's smelly)...aaa....your hair is soooo smelly (pinching his nose)
Nodame ; Sou desu ka?? Ah, I washed my hair 3 weeks ago ()
Chiaki : (gave a horror look)
Nodame: I took a bath a week ago and washed my hair 3 weeks ago, but I still look pretty, aren't I? ( )
Chiaki: (gave a horror look)

The next thing is Chiaki is washing Nodame's hair

Japanese youth have the habit of calling friends by a 'short form' name, usually derived from the person's name. In this case 'Nodame' is "Noda Megumi' combined and then shortened by dropping the 'gumi' part.

ok, i watched the first episode, and i enjoyed it.
Juri Ueno played the part well, i am intrigued by her acting, and her simple beauty. She is just so adorable.
This is based off a manga, and i think it should do well, hopefully...
i look forward to more episodes.
