Hiroki Miyake and Haruka Shimazaki to appear in 2017 NTV Fall drama

Miyake Hiroki and Shimazaki Haruka will be appearing in the new NTV Autumn 2017 drama "Ima kara anata wo kyouhaku shimasu" starring Dean Fujioka and Takei Emi which begins its run from October 2017 in the Sundays 10.30pm timeslot. The drama which is based on the same-titled novel by Fujiishi Namiya, will be Fujioka's first leading role in a private network drama series.

Miyake will be playing Senkawa's buddy Meguro who is a professional burglary expert and can pick any lock within seconds although he hardly looks like it with his usual warm and quiet appearance. Miyake commented that it had been a while since he last worked with Fujioka in the NHK morning drama "Asa ga kita" but they didn't have many scenes together then. As such, he is looking forward to working more closely with Fujioka this time and will do his best to match up to the latter's powerful gaze.

As for Shimazaki, she will play Tochiotome who looks like any other young girl on the street but is actually a professional "searcher" who can get any information through a computer with her superior hacking skills and works with Senkawa. Shimazaki said that she is happy and grateful to be given a chance to act in another drama in the same timeslot as "Yutori desuga nani ka" when she was still in AKB48 and will try her best to create a striking image to suit this character's traits.

Masahiro Matsuoka to star in TBS drama Special

Matsuoka Masahiro will be starring in the new TBS drama SP "Mei Bugyo! Toyoma no Kinshiro" (Famous Magistrate! Kinshiro of the Toyama family) which will be shown at 8pm on 25 September. He will be playing the role of Toyama no Kin-san who was a famous hero in period dramas and known for his tattoo of a blizzard of falling cherry blossoms. During a press conference held at Toei Kyoto Studio on 27 August, Matsuoka showed off the tattoo which needed 2 to 4 hours to be drawn each time. If it was just the tattoo on the right shoulder and arm, it would need only 2 hours but if he had to show off his back, the tattoo would take 4 hours to be drawn.

Matsuoka commented that he never dreamed that he would be given the chance to play such a famous character and thought that it was a joke when he was told about the offer. He remarked that his debut in a period drama was when he was 16 and acted in the late Matsukata Hiroki's "Daichuushingura". As such, he felt that it was somewhat fated for him to be able to play Kin-san now since he had learnt a lot from Matsukata then when the latter was playing the same role. Co-stars in this SP include Inamori Izumi, Kato Masaya, Nakahara Takeo, AKB48's Watanabe Mayu, Johnny's WEST's Kamiyama Tomohiro, Hirata Mitsuru, Harada Mieko and Kitaoji Kinya.

In this era where there are not many period dramas screened on private networks, Matsuoka felt that it is a huge opportunity for them to do a 3-hr drama SP now and he hoped that this will allow the viewers to know about this interesting story especially for the younger generation who may not know Kin-san.

"Cold Case Shinjitus no Tobira Season 2" to return on WOWOW in 2018

"Cold Case Shinjitsu no Tobira Season 2" will be back on WOWOW next year with its original cast of Yoshida Yo, Nagayama Kento, Takito Kenichi, Mitsuishi Ken and Miura Tomokazu while the director will still be Hatano Takafumi. The first series of the drama was shown in autumn 2016.

The drama was a Japanese remake of the hit American series which spanned 7 seasons from 2003 to 2010 and features the team of 5 police detectives from Kanagawa Prefectural Police's 1st Investigation Section who try to solve various cold cases. Yoshida who plays the only female detective in the team Ishikawa Yuri, commented that she was very happy about the sequel and had hoped that the series could continue for a long while just like the original version which went all the way to season 7. In the first season of the Japanese version, Yuri's personal episodes were depicted but there is still a lot to explore for the rest of her teammates so she hoped that these can be included in the new sequel. As for Nagayama, he said that he was a bit too stiff and thought too much during the filming of season 1 so he hoped to be able to relax and do well in the new season. Takito joked that since he has been working out a lot, he hopes to be able to flaunt his figure during a shower scene or show off his newly acquired martial arts skills in the new season since he started learning boxing recently.

Kaya Kiyohara to play heroine in TV Tokyo 2017 Fall drama

Kiyohara Kaya will be playing the heroine in the new TV Tokyo Autumn 2017 drama "Setoutsumi" starring Takasugi Mahiro and Hayama Shono which will begin its run from October in the Fridays 12.52am timeslot. The drama which is based on the ongoing same-titled manga by Konomoto Kazuya currently serialised in "Bessatsu Shounen Champion", was made into a movie in 2016 starring Ikematsu Sousuke and Suda Masaki who played Utsumi and Seto respectively while the heroine was played by Nakajo Ayami.

The drama features Takasugi as Utsumi Sou who is a cool, quiet and bespectacled high school student also attending cram school while Hayama plays Seto Shoukichi who used to belong to the soccer club and is very sociable and the moodmaker in school. The story is relatively simple and describes how these two high school boys chat in the Kansai dialect after school at the riverside since they both are free for a while due to Seto quitting from the soccer club and Utsumi having some time on hand before he has to go to cram school. Their conversations are peppered with a lot of wit and cynicism which are bound to make the viewers laugh. Kiyohara will be playing Kashimura Ichigo who is a schoolmate of Seto and Utsumi and regarded as the school's Madonna. Although Seto expresses interest in her, she is in love with Utsumi.

Kiyohara commented that as this is the first time that she is acting in a work which has strong comedic elements, she is worried about whether she can handle this. However, as the story is set in Osaka which also happens to be her hometown, she felt a sense of familiarity with the story and that she discovered how interesting the story was when she read the original manga. With regard to her character, she described Kashimura as someone who's frank to herself, somewhat innocent and a bit shrewd but hopes to uncover new charms in her character as the filming progresses.

Haru to star in two part TV Asahi drama special

Haru will be starring in the 2-part TV Asahi drama SP "BORDER Shoudou ~ Kenshikan Higa Mika ~" (BORDER Impulse ~ Coroner Higa Mika ~) which will be shown at 11.15pm on 6th and 13th October. This will be the first spin-off SP from the drama series "BORDER" starring Oguri Shun.

The story talks about six months before Higa (Haru) became a special coroner and was still a forensic medicine assistant at Eisei University when she encountered a serial murder case that took place in a quiet residential neighbourhood. Higa behaves like a man and is always cool and collected. She clashes with the forensic medicine professor who is her teacher over the cases and tries to carve a niche for herself in this male-dominated industry with her beliefs and strong sense of justice. Co-stars include Kudo Asuka who Haru has worked with multiple times in the past and Ishimaru Kanji. Kudo plays Nakazawa Fumiaki who is a police detective struggling with the slow progress of the investigation while Ishimaru plays Asakawa Toru who is Higa's boss and a sly man out to make use of her abilities. Last but not least, Kiyohara Kaya plays a student at the junior high school where the murder victims studied at.

Scriptwriter Kaneshiro Kazuki said that Higa was actually supposed to be a news reporter and Ishikawa Ango's girlfriend (Oguri Shun) in his original setting but thanks to Haru's hard work in the drama series, her character had become so well-loved and significant until they could do a spin-off story for Higa. Haru commented that she was very grateful for the opportunity to playing Higa again.

Kenta Hamano to star in NHK drama

Musician/actor Hamano Kenta will be starring in the new NHK drama series "Otoko no Misao" (A man's chastity) which will begin its run from 12 November in the Sundays 10pm timeslot. The drama which consists of 7 episodes, is based on the same-titled manga by Gouda Yoshiie about how a struggling enka singer and single father tries to raise his only daughter and realise their family's dream of him performing on the NHK Kouhaku show. Filming will be done between mid September and early December.

Hamano plays the lead character Itsuki Misao while his late wife Junko will be played by Kurashina Kana. His only daughter Aware will be played by Awano Sari and their neighbour Manda will be played by Kawaei Rina. Adachi Yumi will play the boss of the agency which manages Misao. Co-stars also include Sato Ryuta.

Hamano commented that he is very humbled about being given the chance to play the lead character even though he doesn't look like leading man material. However, he will try his best to play this character in this wonderful story and hopes to convey the happiness which many fellow musicians experience as they begin their careers.

The theme song "Otoko no Misao" will be featured as an insert song in the drama. The lyrics are written by Gouda while the melody is composed by Tsunku who was asked to do so at the request of Gouda. Tsunku commented that he used to immerse himself fully into the world of singing before he made his professional debut so he could identify with the theme of the story. He said that he was honoured to be selected to write the melody and is confident that the song will be a perfect match for the drama especially since Hamano himself is a musician in a band.

Nao Matsushita is the lead, but for me, Furuta was great as the manga otaku. He made the show for me, hopefully the sequel will be just as good. Fingers crossed

I was only joking when I said this could turn into another "Aibou", but I guess they're taking it seriously.
