Synopsis
25-year old Yuka Orihara (Emi Wakui) is a lovely and cheerful woman. We cannot really see any differences in her appearance, but she was born with a lower IQ than average. She grew up with lots of love of her parents, so she has become a good-natured girl. However, she cannot control her feelings very well, and sometimes she does something too wild, which concerns people around her. While her intellectual ability is low, she has an amazing sense in arts. She has been drawing artistic paintings, and creating unique objects which reflect her pure heart. Her mother (Jun Fubuki) always watches her with love and even her late father, who was also a painter, still influences her. Besides, she has a good friend; Ryo Kanzaki (Katsunori Takahashi). He is her cousin and like a brother to her. But Yuka's peaceful life suddenly changes when her work gets a prize at a competition to which Ryo has entered her work secretly. She is forced to come out of her small world to an unknown world. And she meets a man; Toru Sawatari (Shinichi Tsutsumi), a reporter for a photo-magazine. He used to be a journalist of a newspaper, but was demoted to an associate company a few years ago. But he is determined to return to the paper as he hates the power. Toru, who is very cool and has a past, starts having a business relationship with Yuka. He does not care about her retardation and treats her as an ordinary person. This comes from his indifference, but as Yuka believes he is a 'nice' person, he gets attracted to her purity...

1. Powerful performance by Wakui Emi [Rating: 10/10]
I would rate this at 9.75. I originally saw this when it aired years ago. I just bought a copy and viewed it again. I think all the major players give great performances, but WAKUI is just extraordinary as YUKA. Her character is child like on an intelligence level, but a gifted artist as a sculptor. PURE is the physical approach presence she has with whatever she encounters during her day. Some of the characters think its fake and hate her but most are drawn to her and wish they could live their lives more like hers. Tsutsumi meets her as he is doing a story on her work and is pretty cool to her initially, but warms to her as the story progesses.

2. Simply Innocent [Rating: 8/10]
Great Choice for Wakui Emi to star in this dorama, her face is so innocence and you can see throughout the whole drama. The storyline is good and makes you understand how people with lower IQ should be treated. Gotta watch and see how Wakui Emi really looked that innocent.

Sometimes titles can be deceiving, but it ain't the case with this lovely drama. As straightforwardly as possible, what we have here is the pure story of a pure love between two people who, each in his/her own way, are pure at heart. Very good performances by the cast, with special mentions for Wakui Emi and Fubuki Jun!

An intriguing story of a cold, sensitive journalist and a girl with a pure heart who doesn't know the meaning of death. Tsutsumi really proved his talent as Sawatari Toru even thou this is his debut drama. Emi Wakui presentation of Yuka was also greatly applaudable. A very touching pure love story.

Watched it years ago on TV and didn't get past the first few episodes. I just could not accept the premise of this story because I felt it was too unrealistic. From the little I observed, however, I could see that the acting was good.

Watched this during my quarter in college on the international channel, I didn't catch most of it, but it seemed intresting to watch through the whatever episode that was on TV. I'd like to see it fully.

A surprising good story.
I would never have expected enjoying it so much just from reading the synopsis. The main stars were all great.

A typical old-fashioned jdorama, well-done and beautifully acted, with the wonderful casting of Emi Wakui. Highly recommended.
