GTO [麻辣教師]
My first jdorama and still one of the best. One of my favorites that I can watch every now and then without getting bored. Has 2 of my favorite performers in Sorimachi and Nanako. The on screen chemistry was crackling. I don't know if it's great acting or not, but you can see love and "lust" ;-) in their eyes when they look at each other. They made the show. Emotional and heartfelt. I'm studying to get into grad school to be a professor. Of course, GTO wasn't my inspiration. But, it serves as a positive reinforcement that teaching is a wonderful and needed profession. Highly recommended and 10 thumbs/toes up!! Not surprising it has the most votes. It's a can't miss for any jdorama fans.
Hero
A wonderful law drama. Very funny in an understated role. I think Kimura's performance here is one of the best. Not his typical all cool know everything kind of guy. Loved Takako Matsu in here. She was so beautiful. Definitely enjoyed it. The other lawyers were really funny also as the supporting cast. Abe was a laugh a minute with his subtle humor :-) I wish it had stretched a little longer since I was enjoying it so much. Just when the relationship between Kimura's and Matsu's character was warming up, they ended it. So, it seems somewhat of a cliffhanger ending to me.
Konna koi no hanashi [こんな恋のはなし]
A beautiful drama that I don't think many jdrama fans have seen. It's really too bad as the drama is very touching and the performances very top notched. So underrated in my opinion.
Musashi [武蔵]
An epic and my absolute favorite. For those fortunate to have seen this, it has all the ingredients. Awesom, realistic fighting scenes, beautiful people and love story, and great acting by everyone. I never get tired of re-watching this series even though it's 49 episodes long! Definitely recommended tho hard to find/purchase.
Orange Days [オレンジデイズ]
A cute and touching story. One of Kou Shibasaki's best performance. She became my favorite after the performance in this drama.
Shinsengumi [新撰組]
Not as strong as the other Taiga doramas. But fun to watch nevertheless. Wish for more fighting and a darker look. The Shinsengumi were supposed to ruthless assassins. But the director fu*#@ up and made them look like hooligans sometimes. They're one of the most fascinating groups in Japanese history, but the drama just doesn't seem to do them enough justice. Katori Shingo as Kondo Isami was a mistake right off the bat. Horrible casting I have to say. The women in the story...hmmm.
Toshiie to Matsu [利家とまつ]
One of the best Taiga doramas. Nearly equal with Musashi I think. Fight scenes were not as great but the political maneuvering and the bucket loads of historical figures and events more than make up for it. Strong acting by Nanako and Sorimachi and the actor that played Toshiie. I can watch this over and over again if I had the time.
Yamato Nadeshiko [やまとなでしこ【大和撫子】]
Another great series which I enjoyed. Tsutsumi and Nanako were wonderful as always. The theme was cool and seeing the maturation of Nanako's character was realistic and satisfying. I think outside of GTO, this was one of Nanako's cutest character. She looked elegant and beautiful at the same time. Enjoyed the ending and how the story wrapped itself up.
Yoshitsune [義経]
Currently watching the series and enjoying so far. There could be a better actor that could play Yoshitsune. But after watching some 40 episodes, maybe Takizawa isn't so bad after all. Will give more comments upon finishing the series.

Abe Hiroshi [阿部寛]
Very funny actor! Excellent in the Trick series and in all his supporting roles like Shotgun Wedding, Yoshitsune, Hero. But his best perfomance has to be in Kekkon Otoko. Oh man, he was hilarious. One of my favorite actors. Too much skill..
Ichikawa Shinnosuke [市川新之助]
An acting tour de force. His portrayal of Musashi is one of the most memorable to date. Carried the epic like no other one can. Very intense face that would make him a natural in other dramatic roles. Would like to see more of his performances if he can get away from the Kabuki scene.
Matsu Takako [松たか子]
One of the cutest, talented actresses out there. Loved her portrayal in Love Generation and Hero. Dang, she was cute in those spectacles in Hero :-) Has a little baby fat to her face in her old dramas, but have definitely become a true beauty, pleasing to the eye.
Matsushima Nanako [松嶋菜々子]
Classic beauty and imo, the most talented Japanese actress today. She's been great in so many dramas, like Yamato, Story of Love, and definitely GTO. But her best performance has got to be Matsu in Toshiie to Matsu. In a cast full of great actors/actresses, she carried the epic drama. Can never get tired of her beautiful smile. Makes a wonderful couple with Sorimachi and I hope their lives are blessed.
Nakama Yukie [仲間由紀恵]
Beautiful in a subdued way. Liked her in Trick and Musashi, didn't like her as much in Gokusen. Does look cute in glasses. Hmmm...I must have a thing for girls in glasses ;-) She plays both the comedy and dramatic roles equally well.
Shibasaki Kou [柴咲コウ]
My favorite actress. Who can be so mean looking and yet so mesmerizingly beautiful than Kou? She has that "I'll kick your ass punk and you'll like it too" look. Can't get enough of her in Orange Days. A very difficult role that she pulled over effortlessly it seems. She was great in Good Luck too. The weirdest smile, tho rare, can really enhance her beauty. Her perfomance in Battle Royale was the first time I saw in her. Boy, what a great first impression :-)) Kou also has a beautiful singing voice. Highly under-rated. Love her song "Katachi Arumono".
Sorimachi Takashi [反町隆史]
De....aru ka? Who can forget those words and how Takashi said it in Toshiie to Matsu. A more bad-ass Nobunaga I've yet to have seen. He was perfect for that role and for GTO. A very underrated actor who I think is improving as time goes. In his older dramas, he can be over the top a little bit. But that habit is getting less I think. Gotta give it to the guy. He sure has good taste in his choice of a wife. Lucky dude. Oh yeah, the guy has got some decent vocal cords too. Poison and Forever are pretty good songs.
Tokiwa Takako [常盤貴子]
A good actress that seems to put her best in all her dramas. Played the character realistically in A Beautiful Life. A performance I can appreciate. Has a lot of grace and at the same time, can show a feminine spunk to her. Hope to see more of her dramas.
Tsutsumi Shinichi [堤真一]
Awesome as Musashi's sidekick, memorable in Yamato Nadeshiko, and commanding in Good Luck. The guy has a lot of versatality and can play, comedy and dramatic roles. Though, I think he's more suited for the comedic roles. He just has the face for it.

Beautiful life [ビューティフルライフ]
Rating: 9/10 (Bought & Watched)
A beautiful story and very touching. Great chemistry between Takako and Takuya. I enjoyed how they met, how they came to respect each other, then understand each other, and finally to love each other. The two main characters definitely had spark on-screen. Also, appreciate seeing the treatment of handicap people in Japan. There's a lot of japanese dramas that deal with this subject. It might be b/c Japanese society still has issues when it comes to treating handicap people with respect and love. So, it's good to see subjects like this. A heartfelt ending that I will remember. Highly recommended.
Churasan [ちゅらさん]
Rating: 6/10 (Watched)
Memory of this was fuzzy since it was awhile ago that I watched it. But I remember that it was pretty good and that I tried to watch whenever I can since the series was so long.
Dekichatta Kekkon [できちゃった結婚]
Rating: 7/10 (Bought & Watched)
Pretty good drama. I've had family members and cousins go thru unplanned pregnancies & marriages. So, I kinda know what they go thru and how difficult decisions and life in general becomes.
Double score [ダブル スコア]
Rating: 6/10 (Bought & Watched)
Slightly above average. One of Sorimachi's weaker dramas. I watched it and didn't regret it. But let's say that it wouldn't kill me if I didn't watch it again. Just missing too much I think. Not enough comedy, not enough action, and no romantic interludes at all. What am I trying to say? No cute kawaii girls at all. And that's a must for me. Sorry :-)
Ganbatte Ikimasshoi [がんばっていきまっしょい]
Rating: 3/10 (Bought & Watched)
Boring. Hate to say it, but Anne Suzuki doesn't cut it as a lead. And what happened to one of the main male characters. He liked disappeared after episode 2. The replacement was horrible. Didn't learn much about the sport of rowing either. Watch if you bought it. It will be challenging to just finish it.
Genroku Ryoran [元禄繚乱]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Gokusen [ごくせん]
Rating: 6/10 (Bought & Watched)
A GTO clone. Yankumi isn't even close as a dynamic character as Sorimachi's Onizuka. Don't expect any romance here. The romantic interludes between Yankumi and Shin were not very convincing. I didn't see any chemistry at all btwn them. And it seems out of place somehow. Lame fight scenes & constant preaching about honor from Yankumi makes it hard to take the series seriously. It made the story corny & predictable. It's hard to avoid comparing this to GTO if you watch both. Notice the many comparisons to GTO from other viewers. Gokusen always being compared to GTO, but not vice versa. GTO is original, Gokusen unfortunately is a pretty blatant copy. Sorry, points docked for no originality. Just b/c you change the teacher to a pretty female and fill the class with cute boys doesn't mean it will work for everyone. Now, if you watch this one first, it might leave you with a different, more favorable impression of Gokusen. I think Gokusen was at times funnier than GTO, but somehow, there isn't that satisfied feeling you get when finishing a series. GTO has a better plot, stronger cast, better antagonists (no Uchiyamada), it's more romantic, and GTO just left a more pronounce impression on me than Gokusen. Maybe it's b/c the ending was very underwhelming and not as dramatic as GTO. The ending seems rushed and a little under written. Inconclusive. I'm stunned at the number of votes this series got as it's a little above average tbh. The plot really is weak. Wished Yankumi's class was co-ed. It would've brought balance to the series as Yankumi could've applied the female touch and help the young girls also. Maybe the writers felt they've ripped off enough of GTO already so probably didn't want to push it. But I guess that explains the high vote count as all the Jun & Shun fangirls are probably voting for this ;-)
Good Luck !! [グッドラック!!]
Rating: 9/10 (Bought & Watched)
Why am i giving it a 9. Cause it has Kou! J/k. The story is a good one. Kou is so bit?!y, yet so kawaii in this series! Kimura is pretty cool here too. Kinda like in Hero, where his character is more down to earth, not so snobby. I like him in roles like these. Their on screen chemistry was better than I thought since Takuya is a lot older than Kou. Not many airline jdoramas, so it has it's originality. Surprised it's based on ANA, and not JAL, but I digress. Nice CA uniforms worn by the ladies :-) Did I mention Rina Uchiyama is in this too. So sweet and adorable. And the never aging beauty Kuroki Hitomi. Very beautiful and elegant as always. The supporting actors stole the show tho. Man, was Shinichi kick-ass as the hardnosed flight auditor. He looked cool and whoever played Jane, the hentai pilot, was a riot. Overall, a great series. Had fun watching it, as the storyline moved briskly. Some of the "flight situations" in each episode were really good and imaginative. Definitely recommended.
GTO [麻辣教師]
Rating: 10/10
One of the best jdoramas imo. Sorimachi and Nanako really rocked in this piece. You can tell they had great on-screen chemistry and I guess it translated into real life. I've always loved the anime GTO version. So, when I watched this at first, I was skeptical. I think it's one of the harder anime characters to bring to real life. But Sorimachi did really well and very convincing too. Though he can still be over the top at times. I'm glad they added more meat to the character of Fuyutsuki sensei. Gosh, was Nanako cute in this drama. Loved her and still is one of my favorite actress. She brought a strong feminine touch to the series. The storyline was strong in each episode and the plot was neat and tight. It flowed really well. It gets emotional at times, which makes the series stronger. I wished they had stayed more true to the anime, but I guess it would be difficult with a 12 episode series. The music was great and dramatic. My only complaint with this series is the supporting cast. The adults were fine, no doubt, especially the guy who played Uchiyamada. The bad teachers were so bad you can't help but root for Onizuka and Fuyutski sensei. That's where the strength of the series comes from. It pulls the viewers into the struggle between both sides. However, some of the actors/actresses playing the students were downright horrible. The girl who played Nomura couldn't act if her life depended on it. She really made me cringe whenever she "read" out her lines. Ugh... Minor complaint, very minor. Overall, one of the best jdorams ever and one I enjoy watching over and over. I definitely recommend it.
H2~Kimi to itahibi [2〜君といた日々]
Rating: 5/10 (Bought & Watched)
Yamada is not a convincing "male sports star" in my mind. He's too "pretty" for roles like this. A little too effeminate I guess. The baseball action was tolerable. They're kids, so I have to take that into account. Storyline wasn't too bad and the comedy relief has it's moments. Liked the Ryutaro character. Satomi was a nice character here. I'm beginning to notice her, especially watching Yoshitsune right now, where she is really beautiful. Show is watchable. Not earth shattering, but decent. Not a full hearty recommendation, but it's watchable.
Hero
Rating: 9/10 (Bought & Watched)
I really liked this show. Not many legal Jdorams out there. Takuya really played a character atypical of him. He wasn't too cocky or flashy. He's more down to earth, which makes his character very likable. Wow, is M.Takako cute with glasses or what? Love her here in this series. Strong willed yet vulnerable and kawaii at the same time. Abe is Abe. Ever since I watched him in the Trick series, he's been one of my favorites. He seems to be a natural in comic roles. The cases that they work on and how the team resolves each is interesting. I wish they elaborated more on the kindling romance between Takuya and Matsu. They make a nice couple in this drama, but it never got enough play time. So, I was a little disappointed with that. The ending seemed a little rushed. The series flowed, but maybe had enough material for 2-3 more episodes to tie it up better. Still, a great drama that I whole heartedly recommend.
Kou Kou Kyoushi 2003 [高校教師 2003]
Rating: 5/10 (Bought & Watched)
Naohito's character is annoying and spineless. Really bugged me when watching this drama. How there might be people like that in the real world scares me. If it weren't for the strong supporting cast, this show wouldn't last a few episodes with me. Aya Ueto is as cute as ever. One of my favorites actresses. Strangely, I was more pulled in by the side story of Moroki the other male teacher and his student Beniko. Wow, Norimiya was the epitome of evil. Contrast this role with his in Orange Days and you will appreciate his acting skills. Not bad except for some unbelievalbe plot twists.
Long vacation [ロングバケーション]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched)
Another love square. Maybe a little better than Love Generation. I enjoyed it, no doubt. But dramas like these tire me out. So, I never end up watching them again. I recommend it tho.
Love generation [ラブジェネレーション]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched)
Love triangles, squares, pyramids, whatever, always tires me out. I labor thru dramas like these. Just not my cup of tea. But like many said here, Kimura and Takako make a cute couple. It's very similar to Tokyo Love Story. Maybe too close. So, I dock it for its' lack of originality.
Mayonaka no Ame [真夜中の雨]
(Bought & Watched)
Currently watching. Will post comments later.
Mouri Motonari [毛利元就]
Rating: 10/10 (Watched)
The first Taiga drama I watched. Gosh, it was so long ago. I still fondly remember enjoying my Saturday evenings following this dramatic, wonderful year-long series. I wished I had record it then. Oh well....the search for the Mori Motonari DVD collection continues... The story of the Mori clan in Western Honshu. At that time, there were a number of super clans in Japan during the Sengoku period. Like China's Warring States period. The clans were the Mori, the Satsuma, Oda, Takeda, Imagawa, Hojo and the Uesugi. All vying to march into Kyoto and to establish their own Shogunate. This story tells of the rise of the Mori clan under the patriarch of Motonari. Near his death, you see the mentioning of an upstart by the name of Oda Nobunaga in middle Japan. So, in a sense, this is the precursor to Toshiie to Matsu. Which has a little bit on Motonari's grandson, Terumoto, who took over the clan. Boring historical stuff eh? :-) It's heaven for history fanatics like me.
Mukodono! [ムコ殿/女婿大人]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched)
Great show. Has it's hilarious moments. It's more a kawaii show. Yuko and Nagase were great in here. A truly believable couple. The theme song is one of the best in the Jdorama world. Haburashi.... :-) you know the rest ;-) Recommended drama. Even has it's villian too, which I think every decent show kinda needs. Gives it an extra kick. The show can be a little over the top. But it's a minor complaint.
Musashi [武蔵]
Rating: 10/10 (Bought & Watched)
An epic. Truly an epic. I loved every minute of Musashi. I ranked it one of the best Taiga doramas ever. Along with Mori Motonari and Toshiie to Matsu. The cast was wonderful. If you have the book Musashi from Yoshikawa, you'll be surprised at how faithful the drama stayed to the novel. The cast was superb and the ladies were beautiful. Ryoko Yonekura, Rina Uchiyama, and Nakama Yukie, sure made my viewing that much more enjoyable. But the men really stoled the drama. I haven't seen Ichikawa Shinnosuke in any other dramas (heard he's a professional kabuki stage actor), but never a more passionate performance have I seen from an actor. He made Musashi memorable. From now on, when I think of Musashi, I will think of Shinnosuke. Tsutsumi Shinichi, one of my favorite characters, was hilarious as Matahachi. Here, the character strayed a little bit from the novel. But I still found him enjoyable. Like most great Taiga doramas, you need a ruthless tough guy, and it doesn't get badder than Masahiro as Sasaki Kojiro. He played the role to the tilt. Enjoyed his performance quite a bit. Do I recommend this? Of course, but it's not for the faint hearted. I'm a big East Asian history fan, and Taiga doramas are usually 49-50 episodes. It got a little slow in the middle, but that's expected out of a drama so encompassing and vast. So, it takes a lot of investment in your time and commitment. Musashi is worth it. I guarantee you :-)
My Little Chef
Rating: 5/10 (Bought & Watched)
It's okay. Yada and Aya were cute, but that's about it I have to say. Kinda boring to tell you the truth. The food looks good. One of Abe's less memorable roles. He just didn't stood out like in his other roles.
Odoru Daisousasen [踊る大捜査線]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched)
Good police show. Oda Yuji was good here. So was Eri Fukatsu. Recommended. It might be a little too short. Maybe not enough spark between Oda's and Eri's character. That could've spicen things up a little.
Orange Days [オレンジデイズ]
Rating: 9/10 (Bought & Watched)
One of my favorite dramas. For me, up there with GTO and Taiga doramas. Tsumabuki and Shibasaki were wonderful as the main protagonists. Because the supporting cast were small, they too left an impression on you. It really does bring me back to my college days when watchig this. First love, first broken heart, finals, job hunting. You name it, I felt it just like the characters in the show. So, this show can be quite personal to a viewer. I appreciate learning so much sign language while watching this. And the ending is nice and neat :-) Highly recommended. If you want to reminisce about your glory college days, when you sat on campus with your gf/bf, looking at the orange sunset, then this show is definitely for you. Also, it has one of my favorite songs ever, Sign by Mr.Children. Really fits the show like a glove.
Pride [プライド]
Rating: 7/10 (Bought & Watched)
I know in real life that Hockey is catching on in Japan. I think the NHL just had a Japanese player made a team I think. But the hockey action in this show is decent. The ladies are cute and the guys are cool. The show can be a little too sexist or chauvanistic. The men are all macho but the women are nothing more than eye candy, being cheerleaders in the stands. But I guess most team sports are like that. Takuya's character is somewhat too arrogant and possessive for my taste. I like a little more balance in a main protagonist. And the most annoying thing, the dude kept saying "Maybe" for every situation. Like it's cool or something. Uhhh...no. Not cool. Major overusage here. Is it recommended? Yeah, it's not bad. Not one of Takuya's best, but it's okay.
Sakura [さくら]
Rating: 5/10 (Watched)
Sweet ending. But boy was this series long. The main female character can be annoying at times.
Shinsengumi [新撰組]
Rating: 9/10 (Bought & Watched)
The Lengendary Shinsengumi. Like most Taiga doramas, the characters are really fleshed out and you get to know each of the main characters pretty well. The story dragged a little bit towards the end. I wish they made the Shinsengumi a little tougher and maybe a few more battles would whet my appetite. I thought Katori Shingo was too wimpy as Kondo Isami. Hijikata was perfectly typecasted. Joe Odagari as Saito was badass, wish they showed him more. Koichi Sato really played a convincing Serizawa Kamo. If anyone who is a fan of the Anime/Manga Rurouni Kenshin, I would recommend you watch this. The author of the manga drew a lot of inspiration for his characters from the historical members of the Shinsengumi. Serizawa, for example, was an inspiration that led to Makoto Shishio. The female leads were a little weak I thought. Overall, a great Taiga dorama, but one I put below Toshiie to Matsu and Musashi.
Strawberry on the shortcake [ストロベリー・オンザ・ショートケーキ]
Rating: 5/10 (Bought & Watched)
A little tedious and mind numbing. Takizawa and Kyoko really showed their bad acting skills here. I really wonder if Kyoko is really that ditzy in real life. If she isn't, then maybe she's a better actor than I thought. The star of this drama is no doubt Rina Uchiyama. Man, she got played in this drama. I felt really bad for her at first. Why does Takizawa always play these indecisive, moronic guys who you just want to strangle? Baka! Aho! Wake up and make up your damn mind dude! Excuse me for my little rant. It's an okay drama. If you bought it, then watch it. If you didn't, you're not missing much. Btw, great Abba songs in the show. Tbh, a show like this doesn't deserve great music songs like SOS or Chiquitita.
Summer snow
Rating: 9/10 (Bought & Watched)
Stunning ending but powerful. However, a little too "convenient" for my taste. But it surprised me, so kudos for that. Ryoko and Tsuyoshi really shine in this drama. Highly recommended. Nice soundtrack too. One of Ryoko's best dorama performances. Oguri Shun acted really well too. I think he's an up and comer.
Tokugawa Yoshinobu [徳川慶喜]
Rating: 6/10 (Watched)
Not the most interesting historical figure in Japanese history. And the actor that played him is not quite charismatic enough. I've watched every Taiga doramas since 1997. This is one of the weaker ones.
Tokyo Love Story [東京ラブストーリー]
Rating: 7/10 (Bought & Watched)
Frustrating to say the least. I wanted Oda's character to follow his heart. I don't think he did. But still, a good drama overall.
Toshiie to Matsu [利家とまつ]
Rating: 10/10 (Bought & Watched)
One of the best taiga doramas ever. Excellent cast with Sorimachi a very convincing Oda Nobunaga and Nanako as a great Matsu. Toshiaki Tarasawa played the Toshiie character with passion. The two husband/wife on screen duo had great chemistry. Excellent storyline and this period of Japanese history, Sengoku Jidai, is one of the most interesting. Great historical characters from war books coming to life before your very eyes. You got Hideyoshi, Tokugawa, Date Masumune, etc. Doesn't get much better than that for an Asian history buff like me. Like I said, a gorgeous cast. A lot of eye candy for both sexes. Beautiful music. So impressive that I bought the CD soundtrack from a local japantown. Hard to find, but worth the get. This Taiga drama is very hard to find. But there is one seller who is selling it on Ebay, gingertoys2. They're dvdrs and they're good quality. I highly recommend this title. It will be worth your time.
Trick [トリック]
Rating: 9/10 (Bought & Watched)
Great show. Abe was hilarious and Nakama was really kawaii. I loved the cases that they solved and they both seemed to have a great chemistry together. The two cops were hilarious. Especially the dude with the rug :-)
Trick Season 2 [トリック2]
Rating: 6/10 (Bought & Watched)
Definitely weaker than the Trick 1. Comparable with Trick 3.
Trick Season 3 [トリック3]
Rating: 7/10 (Bought & Watched)
Not bad. It drags a little and not as great as Trick 1. Trick 2 wasn't that great either. So, the series somewhat took a nosedive.
Virgin Road [バージンロード]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched)
One of the 1st jdoramas that I watched. The memory of it is a little blurred. It was so long ago, but I remember enjoying it and my sister going gaga over Sorimachi. He has grown in skills quite a bit since this role I have to say. I always wondered if I had done the same thing to help a woman like Sorimachi did. Of course, he had his own motives, but still, it's a big risk and probably not easy to do.
Wakaba [わかば]
Rating: 3/10 (Watched)
Okay dorama. Nothing extraordinary.
Water Boys [ウォーターボーイズ]
Rating: 4/10 (Bought & Watched)
Movie was better. If you watch the movie, then the TV series gets tiresome. It's a rehash that's played over 11 episodes. So, if you want to enjoy this, probably don't need to watch the movie. Watch either but no need for both. A lot of young boys in speedos. So, if you bend that way, then I'm sure it's heaven. But if you don't, like me, then your eyes get really numb. Be forewarned!
Yamato Nadeshiko [やまとなでしこ【大和撫子】]
Rating: 9/10 (Bought & Watched)
One of the best endings ever! I love the music here, esp the song Everything by Misia. A sweet story of a woman who wants nothing more than to marry a super duper rich guy. This has to be one of Nanako's strongest roles. Never knew she can play such a funny and innocent character. She really shone in this drama, no doubt showing why she is one of the best jdorama queens. Seeing her maturation and her slowly developing love for Shinichi's character was worth it. People can change, and for the better no less. A very strong supporting cast that was attractive as well. Yada Akiko was beautiful here :-) Felt sorry for her that she didn't end up with the man she loves. A really great drama that I can watch again every now and then. Highly recommended!
Yoshitsune [義経]
Rating: 10/10 (Watched)
What a great drama. Personally ranked it behind Toshiie Matsu and Musashi. I didn't think Takizawa would pull off the Yoshitsune historical figure. But he did a fine job. Very believable as the upright, honorable, and naiive Yoshitsune. His acting still needs improvement, too dead-panned sometimes. Love the girls, can't complain there. Aya Ueto, Ishihara Satomi, Koike Eiko (man they put too much war gear on her, too bad :-( )....nice. Matsudaira Ken as Benkei is the strongest character in the movie. He really played the part well. Nakai has always been a Taiga dorama staple. Very underrated imo. The drama theme of utter devotion between lord and vassal is interesting and touching. The ending is so emotional and heartful, you could feel the tragedy that was to become of Yoshitsune and his men. Life can be brutal even for the innocent. Very powerful ending, even more so than my two favorite Taiga dorams that I mentioned above. It's truly like a Shakespeare tragedy and I could see why the Japanese still honor and admire Yoshitsune even today. He has become one of my favorite Japanese historical figure. May his dream of a new country of peace always verberate in the hearts and minds of the people of Japan.
