Synopsis

This is a drama based on the manga strip. Rika (Kanno) is a high school senior with no self esteem. She thinks she is an iguana. Why? Her mother (Kawashima) claims that whenever she sees Rika she sees an iguana instead of a real human. Because of this, Rika has never received or was shown any love by her mother. Rika' younger sister Mami (Enomoto) has been getting all of the love and attention by the mother. Rika likes Noboru (Okada) a lot but can't tell him her feelings. Kaori (Komine) is jealous of Rika and refuses to let Noboru go out with her. Mikami (Sato) plays Rika's friend and is always encouraging her. Will Rika end up with Noboru? Will he turn her away if he finds out she is an iguana?

4.	Hmmm...weird but nice.... [Rating: 8/10] I like this drama. Truly I do. Though the plot might be a bit weird, I find it okay. I would say this drama is more like a fairytale story. I have to admit that the iguana's reflection doesn't look too real but hey, I kept telling myself that this is supposed to be a fairytale. Anyway, at first, I really hate the mother. She's so mean towards Rika. Later when I came to know that she doesn't realise that she's an iguana as well, I begin to pity her. Ah...sad ne...Kanno Miho looks so sweet in here. As for the lead actor [the guy who acts as Noboru], I feel that his expression is a bit stiff. Anyway, this is a good drama with good music. Watch it! ^_^

7.	heart-warming [Rating: 7/10] aside from the poor graphics (tragic attempt to portray an oversized iguana, appalling at times :P), this drama is actually quite good. the storyline is quite heart-warming with the mother-daughter issue, and the inferior complex the main character had to overcome, the subtle bond between rika & noboru, nice soundtrack... not award-worthy but not pathetic either

8.	Very Touching Allegory about Self-Acceptance [Rating: 10/10] While many viewers seem to view this show as a fairy tale, I tend to view it as an interesting allegory about self-acceptance. Like many of us, Rika (played brilliantly gloomily by Kanno Miho, only 18 at the time) sees something ugly when she looks into the mirror, and it took much courage and help from her friends and family to undo the damage done by her unloving mother, and for Rika to finally accept and love herself for who she is.

9.	Great! [Rating: 10/10] Kanno Miho and Kawashima Naomi were both excellent in this drama. I can't imagine anyone turning in a better performance. The bizarre and haunting relationship they had was very dark and twisted but you do not walk away from the drama feeling depressed. I was completely entertained the whole time and could not wait to see the next episode.

10.	Pretty good [Rating: 9/10] A fairytale story about a woman being an iguana princess, but forgets she was an iguana when turned into a human, and for the rest of her human life sees her daughter as an iguana. But the reality of the story is about a mother who is unloving towards her daughter and still the mother and daughter have a very strong connection because of the curse that exists between them. Very good drama; slightly depressing with a little twist at the end. This was the role that put Kanno Miho on the map. Kawashima Naomi does a great job too.

It conveys an important message : You might be what others think you are, but you must accept what you are to step out of depression. This drama is good, 'though somehow, some people [like my mother] feel that it's not realistic, but hey, I like this drama. Miho Kanno can really portrayed Rika well. It is so heartbreaking to see Rika seeing her own reflection on mirror...sigh..."sam thong"...Anyway, looking forward to complete it tomorrow... ^_^ -->Okay, completed it already. The ending is okay. If only they extend it more by showing Rika leaving to Boston to look for Noboru. This scene might not be necessary but if only they shown it... hmmm

Their heavy handed attempts to sway your emotions got to me. And it's almost impressive how the actresses can get you to buy into their fear/psychosis despite the unconvincing plastic iguana masks/costumes. So if you enjoy over the top dramatics (sort of like most kdrama is) then this might be for you.

It's a touching & heartwarming story that I suppose everyone can relate to but at the same time it teaches a harsh lesson, that the main responsibililty to become a good & happy person lies on the children regardless how cruel the parents sometimes are. The drama's great in many aspects but I don't think the ending was satisfying enough. 8+

Comments by eternalblue81 [Rating: 3/10] I enjoyed this drama up until towards the end, despite some misgivings about some characters and the way they acted towards the heroine, as well as neglect of development with some supporting characters and some wooden acting. The ending, however, left an extremeley sour taste in my mouth. It made no sense to me for the characters I'd been watching all this time to do/say what they did. Throughout the entirety of this drama I hated just about every character at some point or another, but I didn't expect the ending would leave me hating the heroine I'd been rooting for all throughout.
