Can anyone name some kimono dramas? I'm am not particularly interested in modern series. Movies are also ok. Reply can be in English or Japanese, in romaji or /@. The more traditional / with dance / enka / other trad./old stuff, the better. Also, if there are any series or movies that a beginner would understand / learn from, please recommend. Thank you.

Also enka or trad. music as ST interests me, but is there a way to find out other than listening to all or asking the wise?
If ur looking into olden time plot like the 60s, i would say "karei-naru ichizoku" by kimura takuya..i had the drama but din really watch it..hehe..kakkoi janai dakara =D

so i've seen Sekai no Chuushin de, Ai wo Sakebu and Hotaru no Hikari and liked them both. are there any other Ayase Haruka dramas worth watching?
also, any other recommendations in general? (hopefully a "must see")
so far i've seen:
-sekai no chuushin de
-kekkon dekinai otoko
-hanzakari no kimitachi e
-hotaru no hikari
-nodame cantabile
-nobuta wo produce
-at home dad
-gokusen
-proposal daisakusen (my favorite so far)
i think i prefer romance comedies.
and another question. i've seen gokusen and enjoyed it. now i've come across Dragon Zakura and GTO which seem very similar. are they worth watching?
and one last question. i haven't seem too many japanese movies but NONE of them were really that great. are there any good japanese movies?

Well...I'm currently in the process of watching Hero (started episode 1 last night, didn't get through it simply because I was exhausted), I'll let you know if it's a must see (it did get an SP if that's reassuring..?).
Also, I want to check out Shika Otoko Awoniyoshi, and she apparently is in it, as well as many other of my favorite actors, so I'll let you know if it's any good once it airs.

Densha Otoko, Kekkon Dekinai Otoko, and Last Christmas are a few 'romantic comedies' that spring to mind at first not on that list. Others I'd recommend as 'must see' include Odoru Daisousasen, Iryu: Team Medical Dragon, Nodame Cantabile, and Galileo if you're into that Numb3rs/CSI kind of dramas.

I think you'll really like Dragon Zakura, mainly because the main characters in your 'favorite so far' Proposal Daisakusen are the same in this (as the main students anyways). It's kinda far-fetched one some things, but still a good story overall.
GTO...hell yes you need to watch this. Another must-see in my books, mostly because while it feels like it starts slow (IMHO), it finishes off powerful. The music is also well-done, and the characters stick with you. Be sure to check out the SP after you're done (the movie...meh, watch it to finish the series off? It didn't have anyone but Sorimachi in it from the series).

Sorry haven't watched many movies...of the ones I've watched, I supose Shinobi, Sky High, and Battle Royale are what I'd consider to be good?

Can anyone help me list J-dramas with LOVE STORY/ROMANCE as genre and one of the lead has PHYSICAL DEFECT? Like deaf, blind, handicapped, etc. In other words, love stories between a normal person with a person who has physical defect... or if there's one where both has physical defect, I'd like to know too^^
As far as I know...
Deaf: Heaven's Coins, Orange Days (I think there are alot, ALOT more, right? Help me list them, pls^^)
Handicapped: Beautiful Life... hmm, is there more? I think I only know BL.
Blind: Bara no nai Hanaya... was there any more before this drama? Or is this the first love story J-drama with one of the lead being blind?

Yoroshiku~
I thought they would be a lot, but I could only think of:
Although I haven't seen both I know of two more in the blind genre: Koinu no Waltz(wriiten by the same guy who is writing Bara no nai Hanaya) and Ai Nante Irane Yo, Natsu.

Try Overtime starring Takashi Sorimachi and Esumi Makiko...that fits almost perfectly into the category you mentioned...as does Searching for my Polestar.

NO heavy, depressing theme.
Some comedic moments, some touching moments, some sweet moments, some meaningful moments, some of everything.
Best if there are some male eye candies (no young dude under the age of 25...haha) in the show.
THANKS A MILLION!
Try Hotman 1 & 2. While there are SOME young guys, it focuses on Takeshi Sorimachi as a widowed father trying to raise his family...and all the other stuff you mentioned. It starts slow, but it gets good, I promise!

first post.
i need some recommendations. i have previously watched:
dramas: nagaru onna, summer snow, hotman
movies: the returner (not sure of the japanese title), densha otoko
is the series densha otoko better than the movie?
i'm thinking about that one...
i enjoyed all of them. i'm not really into the detective/crime dramas. I would like to watch something fairly recent. i'm from hawaii... living in colorado for grad school. i need to kill time and work on my japanese.

Welcome
IMO, the Densha Otoko series was much better than the movie.
Also, check out Attention Please!, iirc, the SP takes place in Hawaii (it came to mind when you mentioned where you were from).... not to mention there are quite a few attractive women in it _________________
