Atsu-Hime [篤姫]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Very good! I was more and more impressed with Miyazaki Aoi's acting the more I watched. Itsukushima was also great. And what a life. Highly recommend.
Beach boys [ビーチボーイズ]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Fun!
Beautiful life [ビューティフルライフ]
Rating: 5/10 (Watched)
Lots of star power with a cast like this, eh? Got better at the end when a tragedy brought everyone together. There were some very sweet moments.
Boku dake no Madonna [僕だけのマドンナ]
Rating: 6/10 (Watched)
Overall a so-so drama. I grew to like the neighbors and all the friends who hung around trying to help those two kids get their love off the ground. And 'Kyon' was too catchy as a nickname. I find myself just wanting to say 'Kyon!' for no reason. Doh!
Cheap Love [チープラブ]
Rating: 3/10 (Watched)
Chuushingura 1/47 [忠臣蔵 1/47]
Rating: 6/10 (Watched)
Pretty good!
Densha Otoko [電車男]
Rating: 10/10 (Watched)
*Adored* this drama. It made me cry. So beautiful, so absolutely touching. Densha kitaaaaa!
Double kitchen [ダブルキッチン]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
I'm not a big sitcom fan but I love Nogiwa Yoko so I enjoyed this little ditty of a show. It sometimes went over the top but had its sweet moments too.
Egao no Hosoku [笑顔の法則]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Sweet! Great chemistry between the leads and a nice setting (who can beat an Izu onsen town for scenery?). Entertaining comedy. Loved Nogiwa Yoko as the stern but secretly very thoughtful okami-san.
Engine [エンジン]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Loved this drama! So sweet and inspirational. The kids were great.
First Love
Rating: 6/10 (Watched)
Really wanted to watch this drama for some reason so I did. It was good in places but really went downhill later on and the plot wandered a lot. Meh.
Fuurin Kazan [風林火山]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Interesting account of the rivalry between Takeda Shingen and Uesugi Kenshin as seen from the point of view of Yamamoto Kansuke, military strategist to the Takeda Clan.
Genroku Ryoran [元禄繚乱]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Excellent drama and what a story! One of the best Taiga dramas I've seen. That Oishi Kuranosuke is something else. I learned a lot from watching this portrayal of the 47 Ronin.
Gokusen [ごくせん]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Yeah, I really liked this one. It was great just to see Nakama Yukie spout out "Urusee, omaera!" and other gems. Sweet story, too. Those 3-D guys have hearts of gold.
Gokusen Season 2 [ごくせん2]
Rating: 6/10 (Watched)
There were some funny moments and I love the sound effects, but it seems the same scene kept happening over and over. Plus she never seems to get the guy. :-/
Good Luck !! [グッドラック!!]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Loved this drama!! Don't want to spoil it but I really liked the human connections and the sympathy that was going on behind the scenes you only later find out about. Would watch this drama again.
Hana Yori Dango [花より男子]
Rating: 5/10 (Watched)
Quintessential high school. Matsujun's definitely got the quirky energy going on and the girl who plays the lead's got attitude to spare. Was fun.
Hyakunen no monogatari [百年の物語]
Rating: 5/10 (Watched)
Interesting portrait of the changing role of women in Japanese society during the 20th century.
Ichi Ritoru no Namida [1リットルの涙]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Very good drama. Get out the Kleenex!
Kamisama mou sukoshi dake [神様、もう少しだけ]
Rating: 6/10 (Watched)
Heavy subject matter and for that a pretty interesting drama. Overall, liked it.
Karei naru Ichizoku [華麗なる一族]
Rating: 5/10 (Watched)
Star-studded cast and a plot twist at the end kept things interesting but whew, there were some really weird things that happened in this dorama. Oh my...
Kimi ga oshietekureta koto [君が教えてくれたこと]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
I like Kamikaya Takaya so I was really looking forward to this drama. Still, some parts of the drama were a little hard to believe. Overall I liked it, though.
Kimi wa Petto [きみはペット]
Rating: 6/10 (Watched)
Fun drama! Way implausible at times but I still really liked it thanks to Koyuki and Matsujun's charisma.
Koi Seyo Otome [恋セヨ乙女]
Rating: 4/10 (Watched)
Lighthearted and sweet, but a little too campy for my personal taste at times. I did like the emphasis on food, though! A bit like the movie Tampopo.
Koi wo nan nen sundemasu ka?
Rating: 6/10 (Watched)
Liked it quite a bit.
Koibumi [恋文~私たちが愛した男]
Rating: 3/10 (Watched)
I'm a Watabe Atsuro fan so I had to see this. I liked the Keisaku/Mikiko subplot but otherwise, this was a bust. Did Shoichi just not care at all about his son? Kyoko also didn't seem to be upset at his abandonment of their son either. Unbelievable.
Konna koi no hanashi [こんな恋のはなし]
Rating: 6/10 (Watched)
Not the best drama out there but I really liked it all the same. Sanada was terrific and the dynamic between him and the townspeople was fun to watch as it evolved.
Kou Kou Kyoushi 2003 [高校教師 2003]
Rating: 4/10 (Watched)
Can't recommend this drama. Totally unbelievable even if you are willing to cut it some slack. Does Hina even have parents? Seems she can come and go as she pleases. And Fujimura-sensei's past is really bizarre when you find out... Some pretty gullible characters in this drama. Wasn't a big fan of the doctor either -- acted all distant and clinical but she had emotional problems too. Yikes.
Koumei Ga Tsuji [功名が辻]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Touching historical drama about a daimyo couple who sustain and protect one another throughout the warring states period.
Kuitan [喰いタン]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Yay Kuitan! This was a really fun and lighthearted drama. I think the first few episodes were the best. I love Kuitan's voracious appetite and funny quirks. Can't wait to see Kuitan 2.
Kurosagi [クロサギ]
Rating: 4/10 (Watched)
Yep, I watched it. Very cheesy and contrived, not the best acting in the world but I kinda enjoyed watching it anyway. Bang! Maidou ari!
Long vacation [ロングバケーション]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Yup, I'm with everyone else who liked this drama. Sometimes it was frustrating to see them unable to confess their true feelings but there were some very touching moments. Plus, there were lots of attractive men! Woohoo!
Love and Eros [ラブとエロス]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Took a little while for the characters to grow on me but they did. There were some hard to believe moments, also some cute and touching moments. A good drama overall.
Mada Koi wa Hajimaranai [まだ恋は始まらない]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Reminded me of "Sleepless in Seattle" quite a bit. Sweet love story. :-)
Mahiru no tsuki [真晝の月]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Heartbreaking and takes you through the pain that Mae and Naoki are suffering, but uplifting at the end. The other plot lines are good, showing how healing it can be to face your fears head on.
Majo no jouken [魔女の条件]
Rating: 3/10 (Watched)
What the... I like Matsushima Nanako and Takizawa Hideaki a lot but this drama was ridiculous. I didn't buy it at all -- it was just too far out there.
Meguri ai [めぐり逢い]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
I liked both Tokiwa Takako and Fukuyama Masaharu in this drama. Also loved the guy who played the proprietor of Refrain! He was terrific. Story kinda came and went but overall it was an all right drama.
Mukashi no otoko [昔の男]
Rating: 6/10 (Watched)
Pretty interesting, gets a little weird at the end but overall, all right.
Musashi [武蔵]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Excellent account of the life of Japan's legendary swordsman. If you've seen the Mifune movies, this fleshes out the stories far more and gives you a deeper sense of what Musashi was all about.
Nanisama! [なにさまっ!]
Rating: 6/10 (Watched)
Pretty good. Liked Watabe Atsuro and his Feng Shui commentary.
Nemureru mori [眠れる森]
Rating: 6/10 (Watched)
I gotta give the writers credit -- this took several twists and turns I didn't expect. Sad ending that I didn't completely understand (what happened to Kimutaku exactly?). Overall, a fairly good suspense drama. Could've done without the Santa suit though.
Omiai kekkon [お見合い結婚]
Rating: 5/10 (Watched)
Good show.
Ooku [大奥]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Really interesting look at the world of the Ooku during the final years of the shogunate as the world outside was changing rapidly, soon to come calling at the front door.
Ooku~Hana no Ran~ [大奥〜華の乱〜]
Rating: 5/10 (Watched)
The first few episodes were alternately corny and alarming but the drama settled down into pretty reliable jidaigeki.
Otousan [おとうさん]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Sweet family drama. A little too scripted and hokey at times, but other times it's really touching and you can see how much they care about each other. I liked it!
Oyaji~ [オヤジぃ]
Rating: 5/10 (Watched)
I liked Otousan so I guess it had to follow that I'd like Oyaji. Cheesy family sitcom but fun to watch.
Pride [プライド]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Fun Kimutaku drama where it's all about succeeding and being motivated.
Ruten no Ouhi - Saigo no Koutei [流転の王妃・最後の皇弟]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Liked this drama quite a bit for the historical interest and the star-studded cast. I had never known about this story until I learned about it in the drama. Nice production.
Satomi Hakenden [里見八犬伝]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Neat story! Fun graphics too. Nice fairy tale.
Sekai no chuushin de, ai wo sakebu [世界の中心で、愛をさけぶ]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
one of the best j-dramas i've ever seen. really human, really sad. the moments of human kindness were what destroyed me the most.
sengoku Jieitai [戦国自衛隊〜関ケ原の戦い〜]
Rating: 5/10 (Watched)
Absolutely corntastic cheesefest. Wow. But a fun premise all the same! I enjoyed it.
Tentai Kanzoku [天体観測]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Hooray, a buddy drama! I liked seeing how close everybody was -- they were really concerned for each other and always wanting to be there for one another.
Tokyo Love Story [東京ラブストーリー]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Good drama but oh so sad. :-(
Tokyo Wankei [東京湾景]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
*Great* drama and so interesting with its story of Koreans born & raised in Japan. Also liked the calligraphy.
Toshiie to Matsu [利家とまつ]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Very interesting view of the transition from Nobunaga to Toyotomi to Tokugawa from the eyes of Maeda Toshiie and his wife, two powerful political figures of the Warring States period. I think it enhanced my understanding of the historical events quite a bit.
Toshishita No Otoko [年下之男]
Rating: 3/10 (Watched)
Lame... I like Inamori Izumi a lot but I was so not buying the story. Her character got so paranoid and pathetic that I just couldn't sympathize... yikes...
Virgin Road [バージンロード]
Rating: 5/10 (Watched)
I was really liking this dorama until about halfway through. It really went off the rails in the last two episodes or so -- too many coincidences, etc. Too bad because it started well and had a good cast.
Yoshitsune [義経]
Rating: 10/10 (Watched)
My favorite Taiga drama so far. Watched every single episode. The characters and relationships have a lot of depth, a lot of hidden undercurrents that get revealed as the story develops. Great great drama.
