1. Use the Search option before creating a new thread

2. Have the subject of the thread in English when creating a new thread. And please no double-byte chracters, Japanese, Chinese, Traditional Chinese or any other unicodes.

3. Please alert members if your comments contain possible spoilers using the spoiler tags: [spoiler] text [ /spoiler]

4. This forum is meant for Japanese dramas only.. Other dramas, such as Korean Dramas, Taiwanese Dramas etc go to the General Discussion Forum. Japanese Movies go to Japanese Entertainment forum

5. If you are looking for a particular drama or requesting for seed/sub please post in the Buy, Sell or Trade forum. Read the BSoT forum's guidelines before posting.

6. The list below is a list of threads available in the Discussion of Japanese Dramas forum. Press CTRL+F and search for the drama that you're looking for if you're too lazy to go through the list.

7.No double posting. There's no need to create the same thread or post the same comment twice at a time.

8. Utilize the Japanese drama database (upper right corner of any page) to search not only for a particular drama, but also all other related threads. Keep in mind, some subbing groups (JN Productions in particular) name the dramas themselves, so you may not actually find them in the database (ex: Dreams of Romance is listed in the DB as Are you in love?).

9. The moderator(s) have the rights to change the subject of the thread, if found unappropriate.

10.This is a living post, which means the contents will be revised from time to time. So please check often for updates. Also, the topic will be locked, as this topic is designed for announcements only.

11. Please kindly go through the list of Sticky Threads which are listed above all threads. These threads are made sticky for your conveniences.

12. If you have any enquiries or suggestions please do not hesitate to pm the DoD forum's mods - juliana_phang , bmwracer & Akakage.

** this list is incomplete.. i'm working on it now.. but it's gonna take some time for me to clean up the whole DoD forum and list all the threads here as my schedule is pretty tight
for the mean time, please do not create duplicate threads..thank u for your co-op Wink

There are several translation tools on the Internet that you can use to either translate to English, or convert the Japanese characters to Romaji. Here's a quick list of the tools I use:

Kanji/Hiragana-to-Romaji Translator
http://www.j-talk.com/nihongo/index.php

Excite Japanese-to-English Translator
http://www.excite.co.jp/world/url

@nifty Japanese-to-English Translator
http://www.nifty.com/globalgate

Babelfish Japanese-to-English Translator
http://babelfish.altavista.com/

Again, this policy is only within the Discussions on Japanese Dramas forum. Other forums within JDorama.com -- it's the moderators' call on their respective forums.

PostPosted: Sun Sep 04, 2005 5:51 am    Post subject: *** NEW AVATAR AND SIGNATURE GUIDELINES *** Reply with quote Back to top

These are the new guidelines for avatars and signatures from the administrator.

Please make the necessary adjustments as soon as possible.

Genma wrote:
Rules have been set. Refer to your profile page for details beside the signature and avatar fields.

We will monitor the situation for 2 weeks before actually taking any action. Those whose signatures or avatars exceed the limit, please change or optimise them within this time frame.

In short, total size of avatar+signature images must not exceed 200kB, regardless of animation and display size.

Mods, could you update this in the guidelines of the respective forums where they apply? Thanks.

I have an off-site avatar that's nowhere near 200 kB. I think its like ~40-50 kB. Thank goodness w00t!. If, by some chance, there is a problem with the avatar then I'll fix it ASAP.

Ehh, you're fine.

I'm more concerned about those people who ignore these important posts or just don't read them because they've got horse blinders on. Shake Head

Yeah, the reason I made a bunch of my avatars to fit 256K before was because that was the size limit on photobucket for each picture.

It's tough making a decent animated gif in under 200K. I've seen a couple new animations here that are like a little slide show (each frame is fairly unrelated to the others), and I personally find that kind of distracting from the page. The animated gifs that are more like movies (each frame changes only a little) aren't as distracting to me. Does anyone else feel the same way? Or am I just a weirdo?

well...there was a whole thread about the problems people have been having with the huge animated gifs...its not the content as much as the size thats really bothersome to some people

Have you tried reducing the overall size of the image from 150x150 to someting smaller? That might buy you some more space for animation.

Yeah, those choppy "animations" are distracting.

And pretty bad, too. Beaten Rolling eyes

I understand that. My point is that now that there is a size limit, I have a hunch that people will be making animations with fewer frames, hence the gifs will appear more like slideshows. I don't know what other people think of this aesthetically, but I find slide show animations akin to the old <blink> tags: superrifically ugly. It may just be me though. I have been called out for my weird sense of aesthetics before.

Yeah, but after I do that, there's usually a bunch of pixel-editing work to be done to clean up. It's enough to make me grouchy! Smile

Sorry for my whinging. I'll shut up about it and go mortify myself with some knotted leather straps.
